There are a few different conferences organized in the Apple ecosystem focused on system administrators. JNUC, MacSysAdmin, and Mac AD can be counted among these. On the 21st and 22nd of this past April, the MacAD.UK conference was held in the UK. The most well-known names of the Apple world made various presentations at this conference. These presentations were uploaded to YouTube as of yesterday, and it’s left to us to share them with you.

You can find all of the presentations on the MacAD.UK YouTube channel. And we’re sharing some selected presentations from the conference below.

macOS Deployment from WTF? to FTW!

Mirko Steinbrecher

In his presentation, Mirko Steinbrecher addresses the change that Mac deployment processes have gone through over time and talks about device life cycle examples. An important presentation in terms of being able to understand the antecedents of the point we’ve reached in Mac management today.

Stranger Strings: Nostalgia or Declarative Device Management

Ulrik Aabye-Hansen

Ulrik Aabye-Hansen, one of the regulars of these conferences, takes us to the 80s using the theme of the Stranger Things series. On this occasion, he compares the MDM protocol with the Declarative Device Management protocol. An important presentation in terms of being able to understand the server-intensive structure of MDM and the working logic of DDM.

Solving the MDM migration “last mile” problem

Harrison Ravazzolo & Henry Stamerjohann

Harrison Ravazzolo and Henry Stamerjohann from Fleet MDM have dedicated their presentation to the Device Management Migration feature Apple announced at WWDC last year. Although switching from one MDM solution to another is now very easy, moving all the configurations and scripts in the old MDM to the new one is a process that can require time and effort. Throughout the presentation, we can see what kinds of tools we have on this subject.

Preparing for macOS next

Rich Trouton

Rich Trouton from Jamf addresses what kinds of preparations we need to make for the next macOS version in these days when we’re on the threshold of WWDC and consequently the new macOS version. And he explains this within a calendar structure, basing it on the timings in previous operating systems.

MacStadium VDI – Managing Mac Virtual Desktops at Scale

Abhishek Kaushik

Abhishek Kaushik from MacStadium, the only Mac VDI provider in the market, talks about the organization’s virtualization solutions on Mac. Due to macOS‘s licensing, at most two virtual machine sessions can be opened on one computer. For this reason, MacStadium‘s virtualization solutions are truly valuable for users who use Linux or Windows but want to do some tests on macOS.

Managed Apple Accounts – The Adventure Continues

Jordy Thery

Jordy Thery makes a presentation about Managed Apple Accounts, which are corporately manageable Apple accounts. In this scope, he also addresses subjects like domain verification, domain locking, and the management of personal Apple Accounts opened with the corporate domain address.
